“To tell you the truth, I kind of fell into becoming an electrician.

“Growing up, my father was an electrician for a local contractor, and I would go with him on some jobs as a kid and hold the flashlight. After my first year of college, I needed a job, and my father, working for a contractor in the Lansing area, got me a job with his company. I kept going to college, and I also kept working as an electrician. My first couple years in the trade were a good mix of commercial and residential work.

“My wife is from the Grand Rapids area, so I ended up relocating there. I got a job working for an electrical contractor that specialized in mostly service work. I found the work challenging; I enjoyed the travel part of the job; and, I felt good about solving problems. Although I can’t say that I had the goal of owning my own business, when we relocated back to my hometown in 2013, I decided to go out on my own and start Harris Electric LLC in November of 2014.
