"My job title is Field Service Technician. I’ve been with my company for 7 years. I was hired right out of Fleming College after completing the 2 years EPG program. EPG stands for Electrical Power Generation. It’s the only program in Canada and I believe there's one other in the states but it’s specific to one OEM. These programs are set to only output roughly 16 graduates every 2 years which puts people in my trade in high demand.
Before that, I went to the British Columbia Institute of technology in British Columbia and received a trades certification as a Welder. I then went on to work as a Millwrite for roughly 5 years before going back to college at Fleming."
"I love working with my hands. What I love most about my job is the variety of jobs we have and we’re almost never at the same site twice in a week. We get to work on all brands of generators. It’s challenging to become proficient with all the various OEM generators and that’s part of what I love. I’m always learning and working on new issues. It’s not a boring job - that’s for sure. I work on generators anywhere from 8kw home standby units to 2.5mw industrial units."
